Ever since his youth, Sin Hŭm (sobriquet Hyŏnong [Mysterious Elder]) honed his writing and eventually became a master in the field. People did not dare point out his flaws. He once presented me with a farewell poem:

Myriad matters of the world, what are they for after all?
For a hundred years in this land, there is only you and me.
How were the nine cauldrons different from ordinary pots?
Mount Tai came from the same origin as a down feather of autumn.
Spring sun is warm; Beautiful flowers are delicate.
The traveler from faraway looks weary from a long journey.
Holding our hands and leaving the gate, we are doubly sad.
On the boundless Han River, spring waves swell high.
So mature (nosŏng) and refined (chŏnjung) is this poem, it is not something others can match.
