| 仲兄深服高霽峯。每言同在浿西。人押交字。高公和之曰。連村稌黍三秋後。一路風霜十月交。不覺屈服。又言柳參判永吉詩。雖境狹有好處。如錦瑟消年急。金屛買笑遲。映箔山榴艶。通池野水淸等句。皦勁可喜。 |

| 중형은 고제봉(高霽峰)에게 깊이 심복하여 늘 말하기를,
“평양에 함께 있을 적에 어떤 사람이 교(交) 자로 운을 내니 고공(高公)이 이에 화답하기를, 마을 연댄 벼 기장은 삼추 지나 무르익고 / 連村稌黍三秋後 한 고을의 서리 바람은 시월이라 초승일세 / 一路風霜十月交 라 하므로 나도 모르게 굴복하게 되었다.” 하고 또 말하기를, “참판(參判) 유영길(柳永吉)의 시는 비록 시경(詩境)은 협소하나 좋은 곳이 있으니, 이를테면 금슬은 성급히 해를 녹이고 / 瑟錦消年急 금 병풍은 웃음 사기 더디구려 / 金屛買笑遲 발에 비친 석류는 곱기도 하고 / 映箔山榴艶 연못으로 통하는 들물은 맑기도 하네 / 通池野水淸 등의 시구는 밝고 굳세어 즐길 만하다.” 고 하였다. |

| My second brother was deeply impressed with Ko Kyŏngmyŏng. He often talked about how when they were together in P’yŏngan province, someone wrote a poem to the rhyme of “traverse” 交. In his response poem Ko wrote, 連村稻黍三秋後一路風霜十月交 Rice and millet in joined villages will ripe after three months of autumn.Wind and frost, all the way, traverse for ten months. My brother could not help but give in. My brother also said that the poems by Second Minister (ch’amp’an) Yu Yŏnggil, although his scope of poetry is narrow, have some good lines. For example, the phrases like, 錦色消年急金屛買笑遲 Colorful brocades swiftly vanish the age.Golden screens slowly buy laughter. 映箔山榴艶通池野水淸 Bright is the pomegranate shining through the bamboo screen. Clear is the natural stream leading to the pond. and others are distinct and vigorous (kyogyŏng), and, therefore, delightful (kahŭi). |
