When Censor (taegan) Yi Illo was serving in the Royal Secretariat (Sŭngjŏngwŏn), he composed the following poem, Deep behind the peacock screen, the candlelight is dim.A pair of Mandarin ducks, how could they fly alone?Pitiful is the weary woman inside the blue tower. For long and for othersshe has made bridal robes. Because Yi was confined to the position of Censor for a long time and had not yet been promoted, whereas his co-graduates had all entered the career of chief ministers, while drafting a letter of appointment of chief minister, he was moved by emotion and composed this poem. |
