| 崔猿亭玩世不仕。冀以免禍。一日。諸賢會靜庵第。猿亭自外至。氣急不能言。亟呼水飮之曰。我渡漢江。波湧船壞。幾渰僅生。主人笑曰。此諷吾輩也。猿亭援筆寫山水於壁間。元冲詩之曰。淸曉巖峯立。白雲橫翠微。江村人不見。江樹遠依依。猿亭登萬義浮屠。作詩曰。古殿殘僧在。林梢暮磬淸。窓通千里盡。墻壓衆山平。木老知何歲。禽呼自別聲。艱難憂世綱。今日恨吾生。結句有意。抑自知其罹禍耶。惜哉。 |

| 최원정(崔猿亭 원정은 최수성(崔壽峸)의 호)은 세상을 내리보고서 벼슬하지 아니하고 화나 면하기를 바랐다. 하루는 제현(諸賢)이 정암(靜庵 조광조의 호)의 집에 모였는데 원정이 밖에서 들어오며 숨이 가빠 말도 제대로 못하면서 황급히 물을 달라고 해 마시고는,
“내가 한강을 건너올 제 물결이 솟구치고 배가 부서져 거의 물에 빠져 죽을 뻔하다 겨우 살아났다.” 고 하니, 주인이 웃으면서, “이는 우리들을 풍자하는 말이다.” 고 했다. 원정이 붓을 잡아 벽에다 산수를 그리자 원충(元冲 김정(金淨)의 자)이 시를 지었는데 맑은 새벽 바위 산 봉우리 우뚝한데 / 淸曉巖峯立 흰 구름은 산 기슭에 비꼈네 / 白雲橫翠微 강촌에는 사람 모습 보이지 않고 / 江村人不見 강변 나무 저 멀리 아득하누나 / 江樹遠依依 라 했다. 원정이 만의사(萬義寺)에 올라 지은 시에, 옛 불전엔 몇 안 되는 중이 지키고 있고 / 古殿殘僧在 수풀 끝엔 저녁 종 맑게 울리네 / 林梢暮磬淸 창문은 트이어 천리 끝 닿고 / 窓通千里盡 담장이 눌러 서니 뭇산은 평평 / 牆壓衆山平 나무는 몇 해나 늙어 왔는지 / 木老知何歲 새는 별난 목청 우짖고 있네 / 禽呼自別聲 험난한 세망에 걸릴까 근심하려니 / 艱難憂世網 오늘에 내 인생을 한탄하노라 / 今日恨吾生 라고 했다. 결구(結句)에 뜻이 담겨 있으니 아마도 스스로 화를 입을 것을 알았던 것이 아닐까? 애석하구나. |

| Ch’oe Susŏng 崔壽峸 (1487–1521; sobriquet Wŏnjŏng [Gibbon Pavilion]) thought lightly of the world and did not become an official in hopes of avoiding calamity. One day all worthies gathered at Cho Kwangjo’s (sobriquet Chŏngam [Tranquility Hut]) house. When Ch’oe arrived, he was out of breath and could not speak. He hastily asked for water to drink and said, “When I was crossing the Han River, the waves surged and the boat was destroyed. I almost drowned and barely survived.” The host laughed and said, “These are admonishing words for us.” Ch’oe grabbed a brush and painted a landscape on the wall, and Kim Chŏng (styled Wŏnch’ung) added a poem which said, 淸曉巖峯立白雲橫翠微汀洲人不見江樹遠依依 On a clear dawn, rocky peaks are stand tall.White clouds are strewn across green mountains.In the island, no one is seen.The trees by the river are distant and faint. Ch’oe’s poem composed when he ascended Manŭi Monastery said, 古殿殘僧在林梢暮磬淸窓通千里盡牆壓衆山平木老知何歲禽呼自別聲艱難憂世網今日恨吾生 The old temple is in ruins. The monks are still here. The sun sets over the forest. The chime rings clear.Windows open up to the distance of a thousand li.Walls press down and level the hills.How old are these trees? Birds call, each with different sound. Hardships, caught in the worries of the worldly web,today I loathe my life. The final two lines contain his message (ŭi). Could it be that he realized that he would suffer from a calamity?
