Is Part OfSŏngsu’s Remarks on Poetry, Autumn

Original Text

English Translation
Nam Kon once said, “Kim Ilson’s prose and Pak Ŭn’s poetry cannot be easily attained.” These words are true. Although Pak’s poems do not have the correct sound, they are dense and detailed (ŏmjin) and bold and vigorous (kyŏnghan). For example, the phrase, Spring clouds are turning into rain. The birds tell each other.Old trees are heartless. The wind grieves alone. how could those who imitate delicate and beautiful (sŏmnyŏ) Tang poems (haktang) dare approach his rampart?
