金頤叔少日遊關東。夢有神吟曰。春融禹甸山川外。樂奏虞庭鳥獸間。因言此乃汝得路之語。覺而記之。明年入庭試。燕山出律詩六篇以試。中有春日梨園弟子沈香亭畔閑閱樂譜之題而押閑字。金思其句脗合。乃用之書呈。姜木溪爲考官。大加賞爲狀元。金慕齋素號知文。爲參試官言曰。此句鬼語。非人詩也。亟問之。金對以實。人皆服其識。

Korean Translation

김이숙(金頤叔 이숙은 김안로(金安老)의 자)이 젊어서 관동에 놀러갔을 때 꿈에 귀신이 나타나 읊조리기를 봄은 우전의 산천 밖에 무르익고 / 春融禹甸山川外 풍악은 우정의 조수 사이 아뢰누나 / 樂奏虞庭鳥獸間 라 하고는 이어서 말하기를, “이것이 바로 네가 벼슬길을 얻을 시어(詩語)이다.” 고 하므로 꿈을 깨고 나서 이를 기억해 두었다. 다음해 정시(庭試)에 들어가니 연산(燕山)이 율시 여섯 편을 내어 시험을 치렀는데 그 가운데 ‘봄날 이원 제자들이 침향정 가에서 한가로이 악보를 들춰보다.[春日梨園弟子沈香亭畔閑閱樂譜]’라는 시제(詩題)를 가지고 한(閑) 자를 압운(押韻)으로 해서 시를 지으라는 문제가 있었다. 김이 생각하니 그 글귀가 꼭 들어 맞는지라 이내 그걸 가지고 써 냈다. 강목계(姜木溪 목계은 강혼(姜渾)의 호)가 고시관(考試官)이 되어 크게 칭찬하고 장원(壯元)을 시켰다. 김모재(金慕齋 모재는 김안국(金安國)의 호)가 본디 글을 잘 안다고 이름이 난지라 참시관(參試官)을 하면서, “이 구절은 귀신의 소리지 사람의 시가 아니다.” 하고 즉시 그 출처를 묻자 김이 사실대로 대답하니 사람들이 모두 그 감식안에 탄복하였다.

English Translation

When as a young man Kim Allo visited Kangwŏn province, he had a dream. In the dream a spirit recited, 春融禹甸山川外樂奏虞庭鳥獸間 Spring permeates Yu’s field, beyond mountains and rivers.Music is played at Shun’s court amid birds and beasts. and told him, “These are the words that will get you on the road.” Waking up, Kim wrote them down. The next year, when he took the examination in the palace courtyard, King Yŏnsan’gun presented as six regulated poems as the examination, which included a poem with a topic “One spring day, the Pear Garden musicians idly read musical scores at Deep Fragrance Pavilion” written to the rhyme of “idle” 閑. Thinking that the phrase was appropriate, Kim used it and submitted his composition. Examination Master Kang Hon greatly extolled him and made him a primus. Examination Official Kim An’guk, who was known for his understanding of literature, remarked, “This phrase is a saying by a ghost, not a poem by a human.” After repeatedly questioning, Kim Allo acknowledged that was the case and people were impressed by Kim An’guk’s expert judgment.
