| Lady Hŏ Nansŏrhŏn, the wife of Ninth Counselor (chŏngja) Kim Sŏngnip, was the best woman poet in recent years. She died young, but an anthology of her poems is widely read. All her life, she did not have a harmonious marriage, therefore, many of her poems are about regrets and sorrow. Her poem “Lotus Picking Song” 采蓮曲 reads, 秋淨長湖碧玉流荷花深處系蘭舟逢郎隔水投蓮子畏被人知半日羞 In autumn’s clear and long lake, green waters flow.Lotus flowers in the deep tie up the magnolia boat.Seeing a man across the water, I throw him some lotus seeds.Then fearing others will find out, I feel bashful for a half day. A Chinese person bought her poetry anthology, and after he returned to China, it was discussed widely. |
