(1544–1610) sobriquet was Samyŏng Sanin (Four Seas Mountain Hermit). Since the Imjin War, the Japanese enemies did not dare to establish peace, but in the year of kyemo (1603) they requested goodwill missions. People expressed outrage, but the court, fearing it would lead to a dispute, sent Yujŏng to examine the enemy situation. Yujŏng asked all around for farewell poems from literati, and the poem I gave to him said, In the thriving time, there were many famous generals. But only the old master has earned outstanding merit.Your boat will travel Lu Lian’s sea.Your tongue will freely speak Lu Jia’s words. When Ch’a Ch’ŏllo saw the poem, he stopped his brush.
