(1563–1606) endeavored on poetry and prose but he did not aim high and the works that could be handed down were few. In the kyŏngin year during the Wanli reign (1590), when I was appointed Assistant Governor (tosa) of Hwanghae province, he presented me with a poem. At the cold Lotus Hall snow lingers. In the empty city of Solitary Bamboo, only evening smokes rise. It was a poem of meditation on the past, and the language did not seem balanced. After the Imjin War broke out, accompanying the king I was stationed at Haeju. There the scenery (kyŏngsang) I saw was like the words (ŏ) in the poem. It is strange.
