1. When the imperial envoy Ou Xiji returned to the Amnok River, Yi Sanhae 李山海 (1539–1609), Assistant Commander of the Gate Guard (chongsagwan), belonging to the senior fifth rank, presented to him with three farewell poems. The last poem read, 促道輕裝二玩隨星軺西望疾如飛天涯羈思迷芳草日下歸心繞紫微遼塞晚山當驛路薊門春雨濕征衣殷勤為報新安老一隔雲泥夢亦稀 Traveling to the land of Shu with light packs, accompanied only by a zither and a crane, your westbound carriage advances quickly, as if flying. At the world’s end, your traveling thought is infatuated by fragrant plants.Under the sun, your returning heartcircles around the Purple Star. In the distant frontier, an evening mountain blocks the station road.At the Ji Gate, spring rains drench your traveler’s robe. Please send my greetings to the Old Man of Xin’an.Separated by clouds and mud, even dreams of you will be few. In the annotation to the poem, Yi wrote, “Last year, as a Land Overseer (togamgwan), I accompanied the Welcoming Official to see off Scholar Xu from Xin’an at the river. Hearing that Ou was the same age as Xu, I wrote thus.” |
