燕山甲子。洪彦忠謫于眞寶縣。自分必死。題詩幽谷驛曰。一枕淸風孤館裡。三杯薄酒老槐邊。此行不料生還日。萬事悠悠只付天。

English Translation

1. In the kapcha year during the reign of King Yŏnsan’gun (1504), Hong Ŏnch’ung 洪彦忠 (1473–1508) was exiled to Chinbo county in Kyŏngsang province. Believing that his death was imminent, he composed the following poem at Yugok station, 一枕淸風孤館裏三杯薄酒老槐邊此行不料生還日萬事悠悠只付天 A sleep amidst a cool breeze in the solitary post station.Three cups of light wine by the old scholar tree.On this journey, I don’t see the day I will return alive.Myriad affairs drifting on and on, I commit them all to Heaven alone.
