成謹甫嘗赴燕京。有人請題白鷺圖。而不示其本。公走筆先成上二句曰。雪作衣裳玉作趾。窺魚蘆渚幾多時。於是出畫示之。乃水墨圖也。遂足之曰。偶然飛過山陰縣。誤落羲之洗硯池。 |

성근보(成謹甫 성삼문)가 일찍이 연경(燕京)에 갔을 때, 어떤 사람이 백로(白鷺) 그림에 시를 써 달라고 청하면서 그 그림은 보여주지 않았으나, 공이 즉석에서 먼저 위의 두 구를 지으니,
백설 같은 의상에 옥 같은 발톱으로 / 雪作衣裳玉作趾 갈대 숲 물가에서 고기를 노리기 얼마였던고 / 窺魚蘆渚幾多時 하였다. 그러고 나니 그림을 내어 보이는데, 그것은 수묵(水墨)으로 그린 그림이었다. 이어 아래 구를 채워 넣기를, 산음현(왕희지의 출생지)을 우연해 지나다가 / 偶然飛過山陰縣 왕희지의 벼루 씻던 못에 잘못하여 떨어졌네 / 誤落羲之洗硯池 하였다. |
English Translation |

1. Once Sŏng Sammun (styled Kŭnbo) went on a diplomatic mission to Beijing. During his visit, someone him to compose a poem about a painting of egrets, but they did not show him the painting. Sŏng quickly composed the first two lines, 雪作衣裳玉作趾窺魚蘆渚幾多時 Dresses of snow and feet of jade.How long have you beenwatching for fish in the reedy waterside?Then, the person took out the painting and revealed it to him. It was an ink painting. Sŏng continued and completed the poem, 偶然飛過山陰縣誤落羲之洗硯池 Suddenly, you flew past Shanyin county, and mistakenly landed on Wang Xizhi’s inkstone. |
