嶺東九郡。皆並海。平海望洋亭。斗入海數里。朴梧亭蘭之詩爲絶唱。其詩曰。飛亭勝絶冠吾邦。嶺外樓坮盡乞降。暘谷浪翻掀出日。漁帆風急露危杠。誰將學釣鼇連六。我欲追仙舃擧雙。千古雄才慙木郭。壯奇難賦海兼江。

Korean Translation

영동(嶺東) 아홉 고을은 모두 바다에 연해 있으나, 평해(平海)의 망양정(望洋亭)만은 몇 리 바다로 들어간 지점에 있다. 뛰어난 시로서는 오정(梧亭) 박란(朴蘭)의 시를 절창(絶唱)으로 삼는다. 나는 듯한 정자의 뛰어난 경치가 우리 나라에 으뜸이라 / 飛亭勝絶冠吾邦 영 밖 누대들 모두 와 항복을 하네 / 嶺外樓臺盡乞降 양곡 (해 돋는 곳)에 치미는 물결은 솟는 해를 떠받쳐 올리고 / 暘谷浪飜掀出日 고깃배 돛에 심한 바람이 불어오니 휘청거리는 돛대만 앙상하구나 / 漁帆風急露危杠 누가 앞으로 낚시질을 배워서 자라를 여섯씩 한 줄에 꿸꼬 / 誰將學釣鼇連六 나는 신선을 따르고자 신을 한꺼번에 둘씩 들어보네 / 我欲追仙寫擧雙 천년토록 뛰어난 시인들이 수곽에 부끄럽게 여긴 까닭은 / 千古雄才慙水郭 바다와 강을 아우른 장관을 읊기 어렵기 때문이라네 / 壯觀難賦海兼江

English Translation

Nine prefectures in Yŏngdong were all next to the sea. But Mangyang Pavilion in P’yŏnghae was located a few li from the sea. A poem by Pak Ran (sobriquet Ojŏng [Wutong Pavilion]) is a poetic masterpiece (chŏlch’ang). 飛亭勝絕冠吾邦嶺外樓台盡乞降暘谷浪翻掀出日漁帆風急露危杠誰將學釣鰲連六我欲追仙舄舉雙千古雄才慚木郭壯奇難賦海兼江 An outstanding soaring pavilion, it is the best in our country.The towers beyond the mountains all admit their defeat. From the Sun Valley and rolling waves, the sun rises.In swift winds, the awnings on fishing boats reveal their tall beams. Who is going to learn to hook the giant tortoises, six in a row?I wish to follow the immortals after catching a pair of shoes in a net. Mighty talents of a thousand years,you put to shame Mu Hua and Guo Pu.So grand and unique, it is hard to write a poemon both the sea and the river.
