On one spring day, King Sejo wrote an impromptu verse on a column, Green silk was snipped to make the willows for three springs.Red brocade was cut to become the flowers of the second month. The next day, he saw a verse had been added below his. If the royal offspring contend for their colors, the light of spring will not reach commoners’ homes. The king inquired around but no one knew who wrote it. Then a gate keeper came forward and threw himself down on the ground and said, “I have committed a capital crime. I wrote the verse.” The king made him an official. |
