My friend Im P’il 林苾 (16th century) was well-versed in literature. He was good at prose composition but was particularly gifted in poetry. His poem “The Famous Garden of Luoyang” 洛陽名園 reads, 穀洛爲深塹嵩邙作厚垣畿合三晉脊都扼九州根姬氏初開邑唐人始立園君逢全盛日臣受太平恩甲第齊雲列危樓壓水騫落花飛萬戶垂柳掩千門… The Gu and Luo Rivers formed deep moats. The Song and Mang Mountains became thick ramparts. The imperial domain joined the spines of the Three Jins. The capital grasped the root of the Nine Provinces. The Ji clan first established the city. The Tang people began creating the garden. The emperor witnessed the days of full glory.Officials received the favor of Great Peace.Mansions assembled like clouds.Tall towers soared, pressing down on waters. Fallen petals fluttered in thousands of households.Hanging willow branches shrouded a thousand gates. …The poem is thirty lines long and cannot be recorded here in its entirety. Chŏng Saryong, upon reading the poem, said, “Outstanding! Outstanding!” These three men made great strides in the scholarship of poetry but unfortunately died young. Had Heaven given them more years, how could their achievements have ended there?
