| 許魏之來。朝廷議。令遠接使從容告以宗係等辨誣使。仍以牧隱集中桓祖大王及李仁復墓碑示之。且曰。覽此。則國祖與李仁任不爲一李。自可辨矣。盖李仁復爲李仁任兄故也。許讀過曰。文章甚好。欲見此人詩篇。洪純彦對曰。詩集不來矣。浮碧樓中有所製題咏。答曰。汝試寫之。純彦遂寫。昨過永明寺。暫登浮碧樓。城空月一片。石老雲千秋。麟馬去不返。天孫何處遊。長嘯倚風磴。山靑江自流之詩以呈。許吟諷良久曰。汝國安有如此之詩乎。其言似輕東國。而心服牧隱之作也。 |

| 1. When the Ming envoys Xu Guo and Wei Shiliang visited our country, the court decided to instruct the Welcoming Official to gently inform them about the issue of clarifying the error regarding our royal ancestry. The Welcoming Official was instructed to show them the epitaphs of Yi Chach’un 李子春 (1351–1561) and Yi Inbok found in the Mogŭn chip 牧隱集 (Collected Works of Mogŭn) by Yi Saek and say, “If you examine these, you will see that King T’aejo and Yi Inim did not belong to the same Yi family,” so they could discern it themselves. This was because Yi Inbok was Yi Inim’s older brother. After reading the text, Xu remarked, “This is truly a fine (ho) piece of writing. I wish to see his poems.” Hong Sunŏn 洪純彥 (1530–1598) replied, “We did not bring Yi Saek’s poetry collection, but Pubyŏk Tower has a poem written by him.” Xu requested, “Could you please write it down for me?” Hong then wrote the poem down and presented it to him. 昨過永明寺暫登浮碧樓城空月一片石老雲千秋麟馬去不返天孫何處遊長嘯倚風磴山靑江自流 Yesterday, passing Yongmyŏng Monastery,I briefly stayed at Pubyŏk Tower.Over the empty city, a crescent moon.Around the ancient rock, clouds of a thousand years.The unicorn departed and did not return.Where does the son of heaven wander?Whistling long, I lean against the rocky steps.The mountain is green, and the river runs its course.After mulling over the poem for a long time, Xu remarked, “How could such a poem exist in your country?” His words may have sounded like he was belittling our country, but he was genuinely impressed by Yi Saek's poem. |
