東湖居士徐師川。作詩多愛句中疊宇如云。雪中出去雪邊行。屋下吹來屋上平。積得重重哪許重。飛來片片又何輕。本國文安公李石亨。字伯玉。號樗軒。亦喜此體云。煙拖野色添春色。風送松聲作雨聲。松下尚看花下客。山中猶伴酒中仙。雪消溪畔溪聲急。日轉松林松影斜。庭雪已消余谷雪。溪波方急勝潮波。階花雨後枝枝色。山鳥春來種種聲。又有感詩云。經濟三朝一老臣。堂廟深處儼垂紳。當年事業人休問。神殿神宮不日新。

English Translation

1. The Recluse of East Lake, Xu Fu 徐俯 (1075–1141; styled Shichuan), had a fondness for using repeated words in his poems. For example, 雪中出去雪邊行屋下吹來屋上平積得重重哪許重飛來片片又何輕 I depart in snow, treading in snow.It blows down from the roof, from the flat roof top.Piling up layer after layer, O how many layers are there?Drifting flake by flake, O how light it is!Yi Sŏkhyŏng 李石亨 (1415–1477; sobriquet Munan [Literary Ease]) of our dynasty also loved this style (ch’e). He wrote, 煙拖野色添春色風送松聲作雨聲 The smoke pulls the colors of fieldsand adds to the colors of spring.Winds release the sounds of pines and start the sounds of rain. 松下尚看花下客山中猶伴酒中仙 Under the pines, I still see the traveler under the flowers.In the mountains, I still accompany the immortal in the wine. 雪消溪畔溪聲急日轉松林松影斜 Snows melt along streams, and the streams sound hurried. The sun turns toward a pine grove, and the shadows of pines slant. 庭雪已消餘谷雪溪波方急勝潮波 Snows in the courtyard have melted,but snows in the valleys remain.Stream waters run fast, faster than ocean waters. 階花雨後枝枝色山鳥春來種種聲 After a rain, flowers by the steps turn vivid, branch after branch. When spring comes, birds of the mountainstweet, one kind after another.In the poem “Stirred by an Emotion” 有感, he also wrote, 經濟三朝一老臣廟堂深處儼垂紳當年事業人休問神殿神宮不日新 After serving three courts, I have become an old official.Deep within the royal court I stand, with my girdle strap solemnly hanging down.The achievements of bygone years,O people, please stop asking! Our divine palace, divine hall will soon be renewed.
