戊午歲。梅溪充聖節使赴燕都。還至遼東。聞七月之事。事在叵測。人皆危之。予爲訪得遼東卜士鄒源潔卜之。其繇詩曰。千層浪裏翻身出。也須岩下宿三宵。旣至。辨明。止於遠竄。而終未喩下句之意。嗚呼。豈知有甲子仲冬之變乎。慟哉。

English Translation

1. In the year of muo (1498), Cho Wi (sobriquet Maegye [Plum Stream]) went to Beijing as an imperial birthday envoy (sŏngjŏlsa). Upon returning to Liaodong, he heard about an event in the eighth month. Since it was an unpredictable event, everyone became fearful. I visited a fortune teller in Liaodong named Ju Yuanjie 鄒源潔 (15th century), to foretell my future, and he responded with a poem. 千層浪裏翻身出也須岩下宿三宵 From a thousand waves, you will free yourself.Then under a rock,you will spend three nights. Upon my return, I was able to defend my case and avoid being exiled to a distant place. However, I never figured out the meaning of the second line of the poem. Alas! How could I have foreseen the tragedy of the mid-winter of the kapcha year’? O, how very sorrowful!
