洪參判逸童未第時出遊。方載渡船。有一豪士。率奴僕十許人。或挾彈。或携鼠狼。鞍馬鮮明。呵呼而至。見洪馬僕。盡驅逐下船。洪獨乞曰。某亦良家子。請留一隅。屛伏而俟。其士登舟。奴人各捧饌物而進。其士且啖且叩舷吟曰。水鳥浮還沒。未記其對。久之。洪乃躍出曰。山雲斷復連。士驚曰。如爲何人。應聲曰。生員洪逸童。士卽起携手並坐。聯句極歡。因爲厚交。士乃沈善也。
참판 홍일동이 젊어서 과거에 급제하기 전에 놀러 나갔다가 바야흐로 배를 타고 건너게 되었다. 어떤 호걸이 노복 십여 명을 거느리고 나타났는데 혹 활을 끼거나 사냥한 족제비를 들고 있었으며 안장과 말을 화려하게 치장하고 소리치며 다가왔다. 홍일동의 말과 노복을 보고는 모두 배 아래로 내쫒자 홍일동이 홀로 간청하며 말했다. "저 또한 양가의 사람이니 청컨대 모퉁이에 남도록 해 주십시오." 모퉁이에 엎드려 기다렸다. 그 사람이 배에 오르자 노복들이 각기 물품을 받들어 올렸다. 그 사람은 음식을 먹으면서 뱃전을 두드리며 시를 짓기를, ""라 하였는데, 그 대구를 오래 기억하지 못했다. 홍일동이 나와서 ""라 하자 그 사람이 놀라서 "그대는 대체 누구인가"라 하였다. 대답하기를 "생원 홍일동입니다."라 하자 그 사람이 곧 손을 잡고 함께 앉아 시를 읊으며 매우 즐거워하였다. 이 때문에 교분이 두터워졌으니, 그 사람은 심선이었다.
When Second Minister (ch’amp’an) Hong Iltong 洪逸童 (d. 1464) had not yet passed the higher civil service examination, he went on an excursion. As he boarded a ferry, a wealthy and gallant scholar on a fine horse and harness, accompanied by a score of servants—some holding muskets under their arms, some carrying weasels—arrived with a loud commotion. Upon seeing Hong, the scholar ordered him, along with his horses and servants, to leave the boat. Hong pleaded to stay, saying, “I also am a son of a noble family. Please let me stay in a corner,” and stepped aside. Once the scholar boarded the boat, each of his servants presented him with food. As the scholar ate, tapping the side of the boat, he recited, 水鳥浮還沒 Water birds float and dive. but he could not recall the matching line. After a long while, Hong stood up and exclaimed, 山雲斷復連 Mountain clouds break up and join. Surprised, the scholar asked, “Who are you?” Hong replied, “I am Hong Iltong , a preliminary examination passer (saengwŏn).” The scholar immediately stood up, took Hong’s hands, and sat together with him. They composed couplets and had a joyful time. The two became good friends. The wealthy scholar was Sim Sŏn 沈善 (15th century).
