今之稱及第爲先達。未知從何時而然泰齋酬趙壯元瑞康詩曰。憶昔同遊在兩京。君爲後進我先生。如何今日還先達。却使先生仰盛名。
지금 과거에 급제한 사람을 선달이라고 부르는데, 언제부터 그렇게 되었는지 알지 못하겠다. 태재 유방선이 장원 조서강에게 화답한 시에서 말하기를, ""라 하였다.
Today, people refer to those who pass the civil service examination as “reaching there first (sŏndal 先達).” I am unsure when this expression originated.A poem by Yu Pangsŏn 柳方善 (1388–1443; sobriquet T’aejae [Peaceful Studio]) titled “Presented to Primus Cho Sŏgang 趙瑞康 (d. 1444)” 酬趙壯元瑞康 says, 憶昔同遊在兩京君爲後進我先生如何今日還先達却使先生仰盛名 I reminisce about our past travelsto the two capitals.You were then a junior,and I a senior.How is it that today you return as one who reached there first,causing me, a senior, to admire your great fame?
