| Cho Hye’s 趙惠 (d. 1464) sobriquet was Sijae (Kindness Studio). He enjoyed writing poetry despite not being skilled at it. The poem he presented to Kang Sŏktŏk 姜碩德(1395–1459; sobriquet Wanyŏkchae [Playing the Book of Changes Studio]) reads, 獐逃山外去魚在水中沈鴻雁飛千里雉三表我心 The deer ran away into the mountain.The fish are deep under the water.Swan geese fly a thousand li.Three pheasants express my heart. Kim Yu 金紐 (1436–1490; sobriquet Kŭmhŏn [Zither Terrace]) asked Second Minister (ch’amp’an) Kim Sunyŏng 金壽寧 (1436–1473; sobriquet Mundo [Literary Grief]), “What do you think about this poem?” At that time, there was a drought. Kim said, “Burn the Sijae chip施齋集 (Collected Works of Sijae), and then the rain will come.” |
