Entry Text
From young age, Yun Ryŏm 尹濂 (17th century), County Magistrate (hyŏn’gam) of Chech’ŏn in Ch’ŭngch’ŏng province, was exceptionally gifted. At Pongsŏn Monastery in Kwangnŭng, he met a monk from the Diamond Mountains and wrote a poem matching the rhymes of a poem in a scroll presented to him. Bright moon, a night in the woods.Just then, whence do you come, O, monk? You will return to Penglai Island, roaming with a cane amid tiers of jade. When Kim Ingnyŏm 金益廉 (b. 1622), Magistrate (pusa) of Chongsŏng county in Hamgyŏng province, read the poem, he highly praised it and said, “The line ‘Just then, whence do you come O monk?’ is a poetic masterpiece (chŏlcho). Who could possibly match it?” All who were present dropped their brushes.
