In his elegiac poem to Minister Yi Sehwa In the year of kisa, you survived. In the year of sinsa, you died. Your life and your death were unlike others.Heaven must have hated it lost one of three officials. So it let them stand togetherby the jade balustrade in spring. It was perhaps because in the year of kisa (1689) when Queen Inhyŏn was deposed, Minister Yi, together with Minister O Tuin 吳斗寅 (1624–1689) and Fourth Counselor (ŭnggyo) Pak T’aebo 朴泰輔 (1654–1689), submitted a memorial and vigorously opposed the decision. All of them were tortured and exiled. O and Pak died after leaving the capital. Yi alone was exiled alive. Later, when the queen returned, he also was reinstated. In the year of sinsa (1701), the queen died and a few days later Yi also died. Yun’s poem explains the circumstances. The poem was regarded excellent (ka) and was recited widely (chŏnyŏng) for a time.
