Kim Tŭksin worked on poetry all his life. Like carving on the liver and the kidney, he refined each word a thousand times and trying whatever it took to master the poetic art. He was Jia Dao’s kind! When you consider his poems, such as, 落日下平沙宿禽投遠樹歸人欲騎驢更怯前山雨夕照轉江沙秋聲生野樹牧童叱犢歸衣濕前山雨 The setting sun descends on level sands.Lingering birds seek lodging in distant trees. The returner is about to get on the donkey, but fears the rain might come to the mountains ahead. The glowing sunset turns to the river beach.Autumn sounds rise from among the trees in the field.A herdboy shouts at the calf to return, his clothes drenched in the rain from the mountains ahead. How could he give in to a Tang poet? At first, his name was not known. When Yi Sik read his poems, he was greatly impressed by them and recommended them to court officials. His poetic fame then spread.
