金判書萬重己巳謫南海。次其婿李養叔頤命詩曰。聖君天覆發程近。慈母年高別語難。空有微誠懸北闕。不堪斜日追西山。書傳驛使歲將盡。春動邊城風更寒。冰雪崢嶸江海闊。杖藜矯首片雲還。辭極凄斷。公竟不生還。悲哉。
In the year of kisa (1689), when Minister (p’ansŏ) Kim Manjung 金萬重 (1637–1692) was exiled to Namhae, responding to his son-in-law Yi Imyŏng’s 李頤命 (1658–1722; styled Yangsuk) poem he wrote, 聖君天覆發程近慈母年高別語難空有微誠懸北闕不堪斜日追西山書傳驛使歲將盡春動邊城風更寒冰雪崢嶸江海闊杖藜矯首片雲還 Owing to the sage-king’s divine care,my departure has come near.Gracious mother is advanced in age,making this good-bye all the more difficult.In vain I express my small sincerityfor all depends on the Northern Palace.I cannot bear the setting sun,chasing after the west mountain.I will pass my letter to the post officialwhen the year is almost over. When spring moves to the frontier city,the wind will be even colder.Ice and snow are towering.Rivers and seas are vast.Holding a cane, I look aloft at a wisp of cloud returning. The words are extremely heart-rending. He eventually did not return alive. Ah, how sorrowful!
