On a scrawny horse led by a short servant, he sits on a tattered saddle.Ahead he shouts “Make way!” but behind his horse the street is empty.Broken leather mudguardsstill have the green paint on.The old embroidered official robealready shows faded red.All the officialslower their heads and laugh in secret. All city childrenclap their hands and jeer at him in concert. He returns and reclines at the night patrol office. With nothing to do, he falls asleep. The small salary of a royal guard, might it be too generous? Although the poem is written in the style (ch’e) of parallel prose, it also deserves to be recited for people to share a laugh.
