余先人。嘗於乙巳年間。夢作近體一首。覺後。只記天襯古城㘅落日。霞兼孤鶩帶長風之句。後謫濟州。登曲城而望之。則滿眼風景。宛如昔夢所睹。豈非數耶。遂因其一聯而追成全篇。其詩曰。他鄕邂逅一樽同。却喜衰顏發醉紅。天襯古城啣落日。霞兼孤鶩帶長風。仙搓渺渺身何往,。故國迢迢信不通。萬事乘除元有數。向來三敗敢云窮。又一聯曰。萬死一身衰鬢改。十年三黜壮心堅。澤堂見之極稱賞
Once in the ŭlsa year (1605), my late father had a dream about composing a poem in the recent style. When he woke up, he could remember the lines, 天襯古城銜落日霞兼孤鶩帶長風 The old city touches the sky, joining with the setting sun. The evening glow, together with a lone wild duck, rides the long wind.Later when he was demoted to a remote position in Cheju Island, he ascended the winding city wall and gazed far. A beautiful scenery filled his vision, much like what he had seen earlier in his dream. How could this not be destiny? Then he quickly composed the whole poem. 他鄕邂逅一樽同却喜表顏發醉紅天襯古城銜落日霞兼孤䳱帶長風仙槎渺渺身何往故國迢迢信不通萬事乘除元有數向來三敗敢云窮 Running into you in a strange land, I offer you a toast.Your joyful countenance blushes red from wine. The old city touches the sky, joining with the setting sun. The evening glow, with a lone wild duck, rides the long wind.On an immortal’s raft into the boundless sea, Ah, where am I heading?My home region is far away. Letters cannot reach.Ten thousand things have I planned, but from the beginning there was destiny.Three defeats of the past, how could I say there will be no more? He also wrote the following couplet, 萬死一身衰髮改十年三黜壯心堅 Escaping ten thousand deaths, my hair has turned gray.In ten years, I was exiled three times, yet my lofty aspirations are firm. When Yi Sik saw the poems, he gave them an utmost praise.
