李容齋荇。貌寑。性不喜梳洗。上嘗於燕閒問曰。聞卿居家。不梳洗。然耶。容齋對曰。臣家有祭祀時。則臣常梳洗。上大笑。天使唐皐之來。容齋爲儐相。鄭士龍蘇世讓李希輔。爲從事。天使見容齋貌醜。常厭近接。天使行到安州。登百祥樓。賦五言律。送儐相。使和之。容齋方醉睡。諸從事先搆以待。容齋覺睡揩眼視之。乃曰。老夫當改下。卽口號書呈。其押坤字曰。二水分爲坎。三山斷作坤。天使見之稱賞曰。眞是奇語。更加禮遇。容齋謂三從事曰。如我遠接使。後亦有之。如諸君從事。復難得矣。其時從事之得人。亦可想
용재 이행은 용모가 추하였으니 천성이 머리빗고 세수하기를 좋아하지 않아서이다. 임금이 일찍이 한가할 때에 물었다. "듣자하니 경이 집에 있을 때에 머리빗고 세수하지 않는다 하니 그러한가?" 이행이 대답했다. "신의 집에 제사가 있을 때에는 신이 항상 머리빗고 세수합니다." 상이 크게 웃었다. 명나라 사신 당고가 왔을 때 이행이 빈상이 되고 정사룡, 소세양, 이희보가 종사가 되었다. 명나라 사신이 이행의 용모가 추한 것을 부고 항상 가까이 접촉하기를 꺼렸다. 명나라 사신이 안주에 이르러 백상루에 올라 오언 율시를 지어 빈상에게 보내 화답하도록 하였다. 이행이 마침 취해서 자고 있었는데 여러 종사들이 먼저 시를 짓고 기다렸다. 이행이 잠에서 깨어 눈을 비비며 이를 보고 말했다. "노부가 마땅히 아래 구절을 고쳐야겠다." 즉시 입으로 읊조려 써서 올렸다. 그 중 곤 자를 압운한 시는 ""라 하였다. 명나라 사신이 이를 보고 칭찬하여 말했다. "참으로 기이한 구절이다." 더욱 예우를 갖추게 되었다. 이행이 세 종사에게 말했다. "나와 같은 원접사는 이후에도 있겠지만 그대들과 같은 종사는 다시 얻기 어려울 것이다." 그때 당시 종사관들이 득인한 것이었음을 알 만하다.
Yi Haeng was unsightly and small-boned, and by nature he did not like to wash his hair and face. Once the king asked him while taking a break, “I heard you do not wash your hair and face at home. Why?” Yi replied, “When we have ancestral rites at home, I always wash my hair and face.” The king laughed. When the imperial envoy Tang Gao came, Yi was appointed as Welcoming Official (wŏnjŏpsa), and Chŏng Saryong, So Seyang, and Yi Hŭibo as Diplomatic Administrative Attendants (chongsagwan). Seeing Yi’s ugly countenance, Tang often did not wish to go near Yi. When they reached P’yŏngan province, they climbed to Paeksang Tower. Tang composed a five-character regulated verse to bid farewell to the welcoming delegation and had them compose matching poems. Yi Haeng got drunk and fell asleep, and all his attendants first composed a poem and waited. When Yi woke up, he rubbed his eyes and looked at the poem. Then he said, “The old man must revise this. Quickly write down what I say and present it to him.” To the rhyme of “earth” 坤, he wrote, 二水分為坎三山斷作坤 Two rivers separate and become water.Three mountains break and turn into earth.When Tang read the lines, he praised them and said, “These are truly unique words.” He then treated Yi with courtesy. Yi told his three attendants, “I might have another chance to serve as a Welcoming Official, but it might be difficult to have all three of you as attendants.” We can also think that right attendants were appointed at the time.
