陳上舍宇。己卯以疏被罪。後國家追增執義。臨刑其孔父持筆以訣曰。願有一言。乃取書一絶曰。漠漠蒼天不我明。浮雲終日等吾生。胸中所抱誰能識。徒作淸朝寃兜明。

Korean Translation
상사(上舍) 진우(陳宇)는 기묘년에 상소 사건으로 죄를 당하였는데, 그 후에 나라에서 집의(執義)를 추증하였다. 처형당할 때에 그 유부(乳父)가 붓을 쥐고 결별하면서 말하기를, “한마디 말을 하여라.” 하니, 이에 붓을 가져 시 한 절구를 다음과 같이 썼다. 아득한 창천이 나에게 밝지 못하여 / 漠漠蒼天不我明 뜬구름 종일 내 인생과 같네 / 浮雲終日等吾生 가슴속에 간직한 것 뉘 능히 알꼬 / 胸中所抱誰能識 속절없이 맑은 조정에 원귀의 이름 짓네 / 徒作淸朝冤鬼名

English Translation

In the year of kimyo (1519), scholar Chin U 陳宇 (d. 1535) was found guilty and sentenced after presenting a memorial to the king but was posthumously awarded the title of Second Inspector (chibŭi). Before his execution, his nanny’s husband came to bid farewell, holding a brush, and said, “Please say a word.” Then taking the brush, Chin wrote the following quatrain, 漠漠蒼天不我明浮雲終日等吾生胷中所抱誰能識徒作淸朝冤鬼名 The blue sky, indifferent, did not light up for me. The clouds drifting all day long are like my life. What I hold in my bosomwho can understand?I pay my penalty to the virtuous court with the name “The ghost of a wrongly accused.”
