| 蘇浪休罷居湖南時。尙嶺府在相位。以金禔蘆鴈二簇求咏。蘇以二絶還。楓落蘋香蘆荻花。踈翎隨意泛晴波。塞昨夜風霜厲。却愛江南有歲華。蕭蕭孤影暮江潯。紅蓼花殘兩岸陰。漫向西風呼舊侶。不知雲水萬重深。皆自喩也。又太逼畵樣。可謂絶唱。 |

| 소퇴휴(蘇退休 이름은 세양(世讓))가 파직당하고 호남에 있을 때에, 상영부(尙領府)가 정승으로 있으면서 김제 노안(金堤蘆雁) 두 족자에 시를 써 주기를 청하니, 소퇴휴는 절구 두 수를 다음과 같이 지어서 돌려 보냈다.
단풍지고 마름 향기롭고 갈대꽃 피었는데 / 楓落蘋香蘆荻花 성근 깃이 뜻대로 갠 물결에 떠 노네 / 疎翎隨意泛晴波 변방 하늘 어젯밤에 풍상 사납기에 / 塞天昨夜風霜厲 갑자기 강남의 세월을 사랑하였네 / 却愛江南有歲華 쓸쓸한 외로운 그림자 저문 강가에 / 蕭蕭孤影暮江潯 붉은 여뀌꽃 쇠잔하고 양 언덕 어두운데 / 紅蓼花殘兩岸陰 부질없이 서풍 향해 옛친구 부르지만 / 漫向西風呼舊侶 구름과 물의 깊이 몇만 겹인지 알 수 없네 / 不知雲水萬重深 이는 모두 자신을 비유한 것이지요, 또 너무도 그림과 같았으니, 적특한 읊음이라고 할 만하다. |

| When So Seyang was living in Chŏlla province after retirement, Sang Chin 尙震 (1493–1564), the Chief State Councilor (yŏngŭijŏng) at the time, requested poems for two scroll paintings depicting yellow cranes and reeds with geese. So Seyang presented the following two quatrains, 楓落蘋香蘆荻花疏翎隨意泛晴波塞天昨夜風霜厲却愛江南有歲華蕭蕭孤影暮江潯紅蓼花殘兩岸陰漫向西風呼舊侶不知雲水萬重深 Maple leaves fall. Apples are fragrant. Reeds come into flower.With sparse feathers, you freely float in the clear waters.Last night in the frontier sky, there were severe gusts and frost.Still you love Jiangnan for all the glorious years. Gloomy, you cast lonely shadows in the dimming riverside.Red reeds with fading flowers shade the shores on both sides.In vain, toward the westerly wind you call for the old companion,not knowing that clouds and waters are thousands of layers deep. These poems were a reflection of So Seyang himself. They are truly like paintings and are poetic masterpieces (chŏlch’ang). |
