English Translation
When Fifth Counselor (kyori) Ko Kyŏngmyŏng 高敬命 (1533–1592; styled Isun) was a student, he wrote the following poem in his dream, In youth my merry-making stood above the crowd. In old age, I am by rivers and seas, and sick as was destined. If you are uncertain, be willing to be the gloomy one of the Xiang River. If you are bold and strong, write prose from beyond the mountains. As tides enter the sea gate, skies beat the water. As the sun sets over the fishing shore, fogs thicken like clouds. The post officer from the river south has no message to deliver.I snapped a plum branch for you but cannot give it to you yet. Later, when Ko was appointed as an official in Tongnae, there he witnessed exactly what he had seen in his dream.
