English Translation

In the pyŏngin year (1676), after completing three-year mourning, I went to stay in Songsan and I was destitute beyond comparison. At the time, Minister Kim Suhŭng 金壽興 (1626–1690; sobriquet T’oeudang [Hall of Retreating from Worries]) and Minister (sangsŏ) Cho Hyŏng 趙珩 (1606–1679; sobriquet Ch’wibyŏng [Kingfisher Folding Screen]) were already living there, and both of them had rather comfortable livelihood. Playfully I wrote a quatrain, 退相屏翁各一邱鯫生今又返菟裘荒田破屋尤疲弊若比三分我益州 Minister Kim and Minister Cho, each owns a hill.But this humble scholar again today returns to Tuqiu.A barren field, a ramshackle house, completely tattered.If compared to the time of the Three Kingdoms, I am Yizhou. Minister Chŏng Chihwa 鄭知和 (1613–1688; sobriquet Namgok [South Valley]) read it and laughed out loud. He said, “This must enter the collection of jottings.”
