In the year of pyŏngin (1626) an imperial mission came to our country, Chŏng Tugyŏng served as a Diplomatic Administrative Attendant without a rank (paegŭi chongsagwan). But he was not good at composing response poems, so the whole entourage looked down upon him. Yet his one regulated verse, “The river by T’onggun Pavilion formed a pond” 統軍亭前江作池 could outweigh many poems by all the others. Between that poem and Yi Annul’s “In the sixth month in Yongman, a long rain has cleared” 六月龍灣積雨晴, I do not know which is better. White horses surround a thousand soldiers.Yellow clouds shroud six towns. he can outdo all who went north.
