李體素多讀。博發而未盡精錬。如永保亭諸篇。可繼挹翠。月沙之詩。平鋪如水。象村之詩。組織如錦。或曰。月沙詩勝文象村文勝詩。而亦或有未必然者

Yi Ch’unyŏng was well-versed and erudite, but his poems were not refined (chŏngnyŏn) fully. His poems, such as “Yŏngbo Pavilion 永保亭,” can succeed Pak Ŭn’s poems. Yi Chŏnggwi’s poetry was spacious and open (p’yŏngp’o) like a river. Sin Hŭm’s poetry was woven like silk cloth. Some say, “Yi Chŏnggwi’s poetry is better than his prose. Sin Hŭm’s prose is better than his poetry.” But some also say that might not necessarily be true.
