Kim Tŭksin (sobriquet Paekkok [Cedar Valley])’s five-character quatrain “Composed at Yongho” 龍湖吟, 古木寒雲裏 Ancient grove cloaked in cold clouds. has been relished (hoeja) for a generation, hence it has been already recorded in the Ki a 箕雅 (Elegant Poems from the Land of Kija), which I edited. But another poem by Kim, Treading past Hosŏ towards the capital,I travel on the long road, not idling a bit.I doze on the donkey’s back then open my eyes and seesunset clouds, patches of snow, which mountain is this? Both in expression and rhyme (ŏun), this poem is all the more excellent (ka), yet it was not included in my compilation. I regret nothing having seen or heard about this poem. This is like diving into the sea to find a pearl and eventually losing sight of the moon.
