東岳恩怨甚明。常以月沙為知己。而甲子繫獄時。月沙判金吾。多有救解於爰書。而猶憾其不盡力也。到謫所。寄一律。其一聯曰。退之不負裵丞相。白也難逢郭令公。用事甚精切
Yi Annul kept a clear record of old resentments. He had always regarded Yi Chŏnggwi as a bosom friend. When Annul was imprisoned in the kapcha year (1624), as Chief Magistrate of the State Tribunal (p’anŭi kŭmbusa) Chŏnggwi tried much to help Annul with prosecution document, yet Annul still regretted that Chŏnggwi did not do the best he could. When he arrived at the place of exile, Annul sent Chŏnggwi a regulated verse, and a couplet reads, 退之不負裴丞相白也難逢郭令公 Han Yu did not turn his back on Chief Minister Pei. Li Bai also had a hard time meeting Lord Guo. The use of references (yongsa) is accurate and pointed (chŏngjŏl).
