鄭東望泰齊以新恩。往其叔父良弼靈光郡。郡有妓兄弟四人皆名玉者。並擅名。喜筵曰。三玉者請詩曰。去夜夢被雷霆願題以禳之。鄭卽書扇以贈曰。光山佳妓玉為名。南國爭推四弟兄。人腸斷盡天應怒。故遣雷公夢裡驚。此詩格卑。而以其應卒。故人多稱之
After passing the civil service examination with honor, Chŏng T’aeje 鄭泰齊 (1612–1669; sobriquet Tongmang [East Gazing]) visited Yŏnggwang county, Chŏlla province, where his uncle Chŏng Yangp’il 鄭良弼 (1593–1661) was serving an office. The county had four famous kisaeng sisters, all named “Jade” and were also comparable in fame. On the day of the banquet, the third of the Jade sisters asked Chŏng for a poem and said, “Last night in a dream, I was struck by a thunderbolt. Could you write a poem to drive off the bad luck?” Chŏng quickly wrote a poem on her fan. 光山佳妓玉為名南國爭推四弟兄人腸斷盡天應怒故遣雷公夢裏驚 Beautiful Kwangsan kisaeng, Jade is their name.South of the kingdom, all contend to seek the four sisters.When all hearts were broken, Heaven must have been angry.So he sent the Thunder God to frighten you in dream. Although the poem’s style (sigyŏk) is lowly (pi), because it was composed spontaneously, many have praised it.
