Yi Ch’unyŏng was arrogant by nature. Once when everyone was sitting down to listen to the poems by Yi Chŏnggwi composed during his mission to Beijing, Ch’unyŏng lay down and listened without approving a single one of them. Then when Chŏnggwi got to the phrase, Spring grows on trees beyond the frontier pass. The sun sets over the mountain facing the horse. Ch’unyŏng rose and sat down and said, “You may discuss poetry with me. Keep it up! Keep it up!” Such was his haughtiness.
