余於壬辰暗行時。節當芳菲。行邁且遲。多有所得。而回踰鳥嶺一律。似稍優。詩曰。閱盡東南海。看來左右州。極邊加德浦。高處密陽樓。歷歷鄉音慣。依依物色留。春風仍過嶺。駐馬飲龍湫。余於湖西考官之行。始訪同春於懷鄉。拜尤齋於蘇堤夜宿同春堂。尤齋亦會宿。要余賦詩。辭不。呈一律。同。下試春。興悠悠想浴沂。芳草小庭觀物。杏花疎雨。天機。源泉活活初肥脈。雛鳥翩翩漸學飛。隨處一般眞趣在。却令游子澹忘歸。兩先生稱贊。卽貼壁。而至今以唐突為慚

English Translation

In the imjin year I served as a Secret Censor (amhaeng ŏsa). It was a fragrant spring season, and while traveling fast and slow I had much inspiration. I wrote a regulated verse, “Returning through Bird Hill”回逾鳥嶺, which I thought was rather good.閱盡東南海看來左右州極邊加德浦髙處密陽樓歷歷鄉音慣依依物色留春風仍過嶺駐馬飲龍漱I have viewed the east and south seas,and surveyed the provinces to the left and right,reaching as far as Kadŏk Beach,and as high as Miryang Tower.Distinct dialects I’ve gotten used to.Hazy vistas linger in memories.In the spring breeze, I pass the ridge.Halting the horse, I drink from the dragon’s pool. When I traveled to Ch’ungch’ŏn province as an Examination Officer, I got to visit Song Chun’gil宋俊吉(1606–1672; sobriquet Tongch’undang [Together Spring Hall]) in Hoedŏk and Song Siyŏl宋時烈(1607–1689) in Soje. I spent a night at Song Chun’gil’s Together Spring Hall and Song Siyŏl also came to stay with us. They asked me to write a poem. Unable to refuse, I presented the following regulated verse,同春堂下試春衣春興悠悠想浴沂芳草小庭觀物性杏花疏雨覓天機源泉活活初肥脈雛鳥翩翩漸學飛隨處一般真趣在卻令游子澹忘歸At Together Spring Hall, we try on the spring clothes.Our spring elation continues,recalling the disciples bathing in the Yi River.In a small courtyard filled with fragrant plants, we observe Creation’s nature.In apricot blossoms scattered by rain, we seek Heaven’s mystery.The fountain bubbles upas the groundwater starts to expand.Young birds flap their wings,slowly learning to fly. Everywhere, like this,I find true delight,causing this traveler to stay and forget to return. Both of them praised the poem and put it up on the wall. Even till now I am ashamed of my rudeness.
