金伯玉始振。余之族叔也。全不事詩。而妙解作法。故絶句或有佳處。遊山詩曰。閑花自落好禽啼。一道清陰轉碧溪。坐睡行吟皆得句。山中無笔不頃題。又作香奩五絶。末句曰。曾愁百年短。却恨五更長甚妙

English Translation

Kim Sijin 金始振 (1618–1667; styled Paegok) is my distant uncle. He did not devote himself to poetry but had ingenious ideas (myohae) and method of composition (chakpŏp). Hence, sometimes he wrote excellent (ka) quatrains. His poem “Visiting a Mountain” 游山 said, 閑花自落好禽啼一道淸陰轉碧溪坐睡行吟皆得句山中無筆不須題 Flowers fall idly. Handsome birds cry.A path of cool shade turns into a blue stream.Sitting and dozing, walking and singing, verses are everywhere.But without a brush in the mountain, there is no need to write. He also wrote a five-character quatrain “Fragrant Cosmetic Box” 香奩and its final line said, 曾愁百年短卻恨五更長 Once I feared a hundred years was brief.Now I loathe the fifth watch is long. It is truly ingenuous (myo).
