申元澤混。少稱奇童。俱長詩文。送濟州御史詩曰。一點孤靑漢峀浮。中流渺渺見瀛洲。河邊獨訪乘槎路。天畔聊登望海樓。千樹瘴烟垂橘柚。萬山朝日放驊騮。霜威到處淸殘暑。水國蕭蕭已覺秋。語句遒麗。而但自許太過。常以牧隱之文。為狹小。其兄君澤濡。亦能詩。故自評曰。如半空鸞。我如千里長江。終未大鳴而夭。可惜

When Sin Hon was young, he was called a special child who was gifted in both prose and poetry. His poem “Seeing off the Censor of Cheju Island” 送濟州御史 reads, 一點孤靑漢峀浮中流渺渺見瀛洲河邊獨訪乘槎路天畔長登望海樓千樹瘴烟垂橘柚萬山朝日放驊騮霜威到處淸殘暑水國蕭蕭已覺秋 A single green dot, Halla Mountain stays afloat.Drifting in the boundless sea, you will see Yingzhou Island.At the river, only you ask for the road to the ferry.Reaching the world’s end, you climb high the Ocean Gaze Tower.On a thousand trees cloaked in dense misttangerines are hanging.Over ten thousand hills under the morning sun fine horses are grazing. Where there is a frosty air, the summer heat cools.The whistling wind in this water land already feels like autumn. The expressions are good and beautiful (churyŏ). But he thought too highly of himself and always regarded Yi Saek’s writings as deficient. His older brother Sin Yu 申濡 (1610–1665; styled Kunt’aek) was also good at poetry. Evaluating himself, Sin Hon once said, “My older brother is like a phoenix in midair. I am like a river that runs a thousand li.” It is unfortunate that he died young without realizing his full potential.
