高麗恭愍王値紅賊之亂。南行淸州。至原巖驛。其時杏村李侍中嵒漆原尹侍中桓瑞谷廉侍中悌臣唐城洪元哲壽春李壽山啓城王梓檜山黃石奇。皆年高德邵。共稱七老。宴集詩曰。碧玉盃深美酒香。稽琴聲緩笛聲長。箇中又有歌喉細。七老相歎鬢似霜。黃石奇之詩也。想見一時諸老之氣像也。

Korean Translation

고려 공민왕(恭愍王)이 홍건적(紅巾賊)의 난(亂)을 만나 남쪽 청주(淸州)로 행차할 때 원암역(元巖驛)에 이르니, 그때에 행촌(杏村) 시중(侍中) 이암(李嵓), 칠원(漆原) 시중 윤환(尹桓), 서곡(瑞谷) 시중 염제신(廉悌臣), 당성(唐城) 홍원철(洪元哲), 수춘(壽春) 이수산(李壽山), 계성(啓城), 왕재(王梓), 회산(檜山) 황석기(黃石奇)가 있었는데, 모두 나이 많고 덕이 높아 칠로(七老)라 일컬었다. 연집시(宴集詩)에, 벽옥의 술잔은 깊어 맛있는 술이 향기로운데 / 碧玉杯深美酒香 거문고 소리는 늘어지고 피리소리는 길도다 / 嵇琴聲緩笛聲長 그 가운데 또 가느다란 노래 소리 섞이니 / 箇中又有歌喉細 칠로가 서로 기뻐하는데 귀밑털이 서리와 같도다 / 七老相歡鬢似霜 한 것은 황석기(黃石奇)의 사(辭)다. 그 당시 여러 노인의 가상을 상상해 볼 만하다.

English Translation

King Kongmin of the Koryŏ encountered the Red Turban Rebellion (1351–1368) and retreated south to Ch’ŏngju, Ch’ungch’ŏng province. When he arrived at Wŏnam station, he was accompanied by several esteemed officials, including Chief Minister (sijung) Yi Am 李嵒 (1297–1364; sobriquet Haengch’on [Apricot Village]), Chief Minister Yun Hwan 尹桓 (d. 1387) of Ch’irwŏn, Chief Minister Yŏm Chesin 廉悌臣 (1304–1382) of Sŏwŏn, Executive of the Grand Chancellery (ch’ansŏngsa) for Grand Prince of Tangsŏng Hong Wŏnch’ŏl 洪元哲 (ca. 1361), Grand Prince of Such’un Yi Susan 李壽山 (d. 1376), Prince of Kyesŏng Wang Chae 王梓 (d. 1363), and Prince of Hoesan Hwang Sŏkki 黃石奇 (d. 1364). They were all elderly and virtuous. Together, they held a banquet of the Seven Elders and composed a poem, 碧玉杯深美酒香嵇琴聲緩笛聲長箇中又有歌喉細七老相歡鬢似霜 In the deep green jade cups,fine wine smells sweet.The lute sounds slow.The pipe sounds long. Then there is alsoa delicate singing voice.The Seven Elders rejoice, their sideburns like frost. This poem, composed by Hwang Sŏkki, captures the personal aura (kisang) of the elders at the time.
