其後戶部郞中祈順。與行人張瑾。一時而來。戶部純謹和易。善賦詩。上待之甚厚。戶部慕上儀采曰。眞天人也。盧宣城徐達城爲館伴。余與洪兼善。李次公爲從事官。以備不虞。達城曰。天使雖善作詩。皆是宿構。不如我先作詩以希賡韻。則彼必大窘矣。遊漢江之日。登濟川亭。達城出呈詩數首曰。丈人逸韻。僕未能酬。今輟蕪詞。仰希高和。戶部微笑一覽。卽拔筆寫下。文不可點。如百濟地形臨水盡。五臺泉脈自天來之句。倚罷高樓不盡情。又携春色泛空明。人從竹葉杯中醉。舟向楊花渡口行之句。又作江之水辭。又乘舟順流而下。至于蠶嶺不曾輟咏。達城膽落。岸帽長吟而已。金文良舌呿不收曰。近來不針灸。詩思枯涸枯。如此受苦耳。不能措一辭。人皆笑之。

Korean Translation

그 뒤에 호부 낭중(戶部郞中) 기순(祈順)이 행인(行人) 장근(張瑾)과 함께 와서 문묘(文廟)에 갔다. 호부는 순근(純謹) 화이(和易)하고 시와 부를 잘하였는데, 임금이 매우 후하게 대접하니 호부가 임금의 의채(儀采)를 흠모하여, “참다운 천인(天人)이다.” 했다. 노선성(盧宣城 노사신(盧思愼))과 서달성(徐達成)이 관반(館伴)이 되고 내가 홍겸선(洪兼善)ㆍ이차공(李次公)과 더불어 종사관(從事官)이 되어 대기하고 있을 적에 서달성이 말하기를, “중국 사신이 시를 잘 짓는데 이는 모두 오래 전부터 지어둔 것일 것이다. 내가 먼저 시를 지어 차운하라고 청하면 반드시 그가 크게 낭패할 것이다.” 하였다. 한강에서 놀던 날 제천정(濟川亭)에 오르자 달성이 시 몇 수를 내보이면서, “대인의 뛰어난 운을 제가 도저히 화답할 수 없습니다. 지금 서투른 글을 엮으니 화답을 바랍니다.” 하니, 호부가 미소하면서 한 번 보고 붓을 들어 내리쓰는데, 그 글에 고칠 것이 하나도 없었다. 백제의 지형은 물에 임하여 다하였고 / 百濟地形臨水盡 오대의 천맥은 하늘에서 왔다 / 五臺泉脈自天來 라는 글귀라든가 고루에 기대었으나 정을 다하지 못해 / 倚罷高樓不盡情 다시 춘색을 끌어당겨 밝은 허공에 띄우네 / 又携春色泛空明 사람은 죽엽배 속에서 취하고 / 人從竹葉杯中醉 배는 양화도 어구를 향해 가로지르네 / 舟向楊花渡口橫 라는 글귀 같은 것이다. 또 〈강지수사(江之水辭)〉를 지으면서 배를 타고 잠령(蠶嶺 남산(南山))까지 흘러내려 가도록 글 읊는 것을 그치지 않으니, 달성이 담이 내려 앉아 사모(紗帽)를 젖혀 쓰고 길게 신음할 뿐이요, 김문량(金文良)은 혀를 내민 채 거두지도 못하고서, “노적(老賊)이 너무 심하게 사람을 속였구나. 근래에 내가 침[針灸]를 맞지 않아서 시사(詩思)가 메말라 이와 같은 괴로움을 받을 따름이다.” 하고, 한마디도 말을 못하니 사람들이 모두 웃었다.

English Translation

Later, Qi Shun 祈順 (15th century), Supervisor at the Ministry of Census (Hubu langzhong), and Zhang Jin 張瑾 (15th century), the envoy, came together. Qi was sincere and gentle. He excelled in poetry and rhapsodies. The king treated him with great generosity. Qi admired the king’s elegant demeanor and called him “a truly heavenly man.” Prince of Sŏnsŏng, No Sasin 盧思愼 (1427–1498), and Prince of Talsŏng, Sŏ Kŏjŏng escorted Qi, and Hong Kwidal 洪貴達 (1438–1504; styled Kyŏmsŏn兼善), Yi Sukkam 李淑瑊 (15th century; styled Ch’agong 次公), and I were appointed temporary officials on standby. Sŏ Kŏjŏng said, “Although Supervisor Qi is good at writing poems, all are preconceived works. If I first write a poem and ask him to match mine with challenging rhymes, he will surely be embarrassed.” On the day of the Han River cruise, we ascended Chech’ŏn Pavilion. Sŏ first composed a few poems and said, “I had been unable to match your excellent rhymes. I hope you can respond to my humble poems.” With a smile, Supervisor Qi glanced at the poems, held a brush, and started writing. His writing needed no corrections. He wrote a couplet like, 百濟地形臨水盡五臺泉脉自天來 Paekche’s terrain overlooks the river.Odae’s fountainhead flows from Heaven. And he also wrote, 倚罷高樓不盡情又携春色泛空明人從竹葉盃中醉舟向楊花渡口橫 Leaning from the tower, the sentiments linger on. Again, I hold in my hand spring colors, letting them waft in the luminous sky.From the Bamboo Leaf Wine,people are getting drunk. Towards the Willow Catkin Ferrythe boat drifts on.He also composed a lyric poem, “River Current” 江之水. From the moment we boarded the boat, throughout the ride, and until we reached Chamdu Peak, he did not stop writing poems. Stunned and disheartened, Prince of Talsŏng put a hat over his head and let out long sighs. Agape and astonished, Kim Suon said, “I did not have acupuncture lately. My poetic thoughts (sisa) have dried up (kogal), and that’s why I am having a rough time.” So saying, he could not compose a single line (sa). Everyone had a laugh about it.
