| 天將楊經理。以禦倭留王京。行軍過靑坡郊。時。田中男女。齊聲鋤耘而韻。經理問通官曰。彼歌亦有腔調乎。曰。皆有腔調。曰。可得聞乎。曰。用俚語爲曲。非文子也。曰。令接伴使飜譯而進。其歌曰。昔日若如此。此形安得指。此心化爲絲。曲曲還成結。欲解又欲解。不知端在何處。經理覽之稱善曰。我行軍而過道路。人無不聳觀。今此農夫。鋤耘不輟。非徙動於本業。其歌曲亦甚有理。可尙也。遂分靑布。各一疋而賞之 |

| Chinese General, Chief Commander Yang Hao 楊鎬 (d. 1629), was staying in the capital to fight the Japanese. When his troops were passing Ch’ŏngp’a suburb, men and women in the fields were weeding and singing in one voice. Yang asked the interpreter, “Do their songs also have tune-patterns?” The interpreter replied, “They all have tune-patterns.” Yang asked, “Can you tell me what they are?” The interpreter answered, “Their songs are based on colloquialisms (iŏ), so they are not written words.” Yang asked, “Have the Welcoming Official to translate them and present to me.” The song said, 昔日若如此此形安得持此心化為絲曲曲還成結欲解又欲解不知端在何處 If the former days turned out like this,how can I keep my appearance then?This heart has transformed into a silk thread,which coiled and coiled and eventually became a knot.I want to untie.
