河應臨。年甫十歲。以奇童稱。有長者。指竹箏爲題。呼韻應聲而答曰。平地忽生黃犢角。岩門初展蟄龍腰。安得折爾爲長笛。吹作太平行樂調。及其少年登第。一時言才者。以應臨爲首。嘗送客西郊。有詩曰。草草西郊別。春風酒一杯。靑山人不見。斜日獨歸來。當時。以山中相送罷。日暮掩柴扉。並稱。而識者或言其年命不延。未幾而歿
