When I was young, I visited Mongnoe Pavilion by the Han River, which belonged to Chief Minister Chŏng Yugil. At the time, Chŏng frequently stayed near rivers and lakes, and the pavilion’s windows all had spring welcoming messages on them. Work is easy and the body is free. Who in the world can rebuke me?The white-haired man is in Mongnoe Pavilion.Luckily, the court has no trouble,so on a raft I come and angle in the Han River in spring. Plum trees like to embellish their twigs. Willows like to knit their brows. The cool riveris green and clear. The old official is not worriedby the well-being of the state, only wishing for the royal palace ten thousand years of spring. This white-haired old minister of the past courtidles and hurries following his lot and simply dwells in peace.A fisherman reports to me that spring river is warm. Before the time for flowers, he offers me mandarin fish. When I was young, I often recited them and still remember them even though I am old. Whenever I recite them, I think of the Chief Minister’s natural charm (p’ungch’i).
