李公晬光號芝峯。雅操出塵。歷盡世變。未嘗小挫。亦能見幾而作。免於機穽。眞所謂金玉君子也。其出守順川府時。附送其詩卷。卷中有近體二首。暮年身世宰炎鄕。治郡無能坐嘯長。春燕不來閑院落。晴波欲滿小池塘。紅梅影下文書靜。綠橘陰邊几席香。衙罷閉門人跡少。隔窓啼鳥又斜陽。檻外池光染綠苔。一簾微雨欲黃梅。衙居寂寞門長掩。公退尋常印不開。盧橘香邊山鹿睡。石榴花下怪禽來。軒窓盡日淸如水。輸如騷翁晝夢回。格韻淸麗。自不可及

Korean Translation

이공 수광(李公睟光)의 자는 윤경(潤卿)이요 호는 지봉(芝峯)인데 단아한 풍도가 진세(塵世)를 벗어나 세상의 변고를 차례로 다 맛보았으면서도 조금이라도 좌절한 적이 한 번도 없었고, 이와 함께 기미를 보고 일어나 함정에 떨어지는 화를 면할 수 있었으니, 그야말로 금옥군자(金玉君子)라고 해야 할 것이다. 밖으로 나가 순천부(順川府)를 맡고 있을 때 시권(詩卷)을 부쳐 보냈는데 그 가운데 칠언 근체시 2수가 들어 있었다. 그 시를 보건대, 늘그막에 남쪽 시골 수령으로 내려와서 / 暮年身世宰炎鄕 다스릴 능력 없어 탄식만 하고 앉아 있네 / 治郡無能坐嘯長 한가한 집 뜨락엔 봄 제비도 오지 않고 / 春燕不來閑院落 조그마한 연못가엔 맑은 물결 찰랑이네 / 晴波欲滿小池塘 붉은 매화 그림자 아래 문서 처리할 일도 없고 / 紅梅影下文書靜 귤나무 그늘 가에 자리가 향기롭네 / 綠橘陰邊几席香 퇴근하고 문 닫히자 인적도 끊어지고 / 衙罷閉門人跡少 창 너머 새 소리에 또 기우는 저녁 햇살 / 隔窓啼鳥又斜陽 이라 하였고, 또 난간 밖 연못의 빛 푸른 이끼 물들이고 / 檻外池光梁綠苔 주렴(珠簾)에 비낀 가랑비 노란 매실 익히누나 / 一簾微雨欲黃梅 출근해도 문 닫힌 채 적막하기 그지없고 / 衙居寂寞門長掩 퇴근해도 어제처럼 인 꺼낼 일 하나 없네 / 公退尋常印不開 밀감 향내 맡으면서 산 사슴 잠이 들고 / 盧橘香邊山鹿睡 석류 꽃 그늘 아래 새들 모여 앉아 있네 / 石榴花下怪禽來 창문 밖엔 하루 종일 찾아오는 인적 없어 / 軒窓盡日淸如水 오늘도 시상(詩想)에 젖다 낮잠에 빠져드네 / 輸與騷翁晝夢回 라고 하였는데, 격운(格韻)이 청려(淸麗)하여 스스로 미칠 수가 없다.

English Translation

Yi Sugwang 李睟光 (1563–1628), whose sobriquet was Chibong (Immortality Mushroom Peak), had lofty integrity that transcended the dusty mundane world. Although he experienced a change of time, he was not at all disheartened. Moreover, when he realized the time was near, he avoided getting trapped. Truly, he was the so-called precious “gentleman of gold and jade.” When sent to Sunch’ŏn in P’yŏngan province as a magistrate, he sent me his collection of poems and in it were the following two recent style poems, 暮年身世宰炎鄉治郡無能坐嘯長春燕不來閑院落晴波欲滿小池塘紅梅影下文書靜綠橘陰邊幾席香衙罷閉門人跡少隔窗啼鳥又斜陽 At old age, I am here governing the countryside south.Inept in managing my prefecture, I sit and let out a long sigh.Spring swallows do not come and visit my empty courtyard.Clear waves fill upmy small pond.Under the shadow of pink plum blossoms, documents sit still.By the shade of a green tangerine tree, my table and mat are fragrant.The workday is done, and the gate is shut. Now the footsteps are few.Through the window, a bird warblesand the sun sets. 檻外池光染綠苔一希微雨欲黃梅衙居寂寞門長掩公退尋常印不開盧橘香邊山鹿睡石榴花下怪禽來軒窗盡日淸如水輸與騷翁晝夢回 Over the balustrade the pond shines, colored by the green mosses.A sparse rain drizzles, and plums are almost ripe. It’s lonely at the government office for the gate is always closed.Coming back from work, usually there is no need to use my seal.By the sweet-smelling tangerines, the mountain deer sleep.Under the pomegranate flowers, rare birds arrive.By the tall window, all day longit is cool like water.To speak to the old poet,I return to my daydream. So clear and beautiful (ch’ŏngnyŏ), they are matchless in style (kyŏk) and rhyme.
