徐花潭敬德。生質近於上知。於邵易尤邃其推出經世之數。無一謬誤。有詩曰。讀書堂日志經綸。歲暮還甘顔氏貧。富貴有爭難下手。林泉無禁可安身。採山釣水堪充腹。咏月吟風足暢神。學到不疑眞快活。免敎虛作百年人。其志之所存。可想見矣

Korean Translation

서화담(徐花潭)은 이름은 경덕(敬德)이요 타고 난 자질이 상지(上知)에 가까운데 특히 소역(邵易 소강절(邵康節)의 역)에 조예가 깊어 그가 뽑아낸 《황극경세서(皇極經世書)》의 수(數)를 보면 하나도 잘못된 곳을 찾을 수가 없었다. 그의 시에, 책 읽으며 당초에는 경륜에 뜻 뒀는데 / 讀書當日志經綸 늙어가며 다시금 안회(顔回)의 가난이 좋아졌네 / 歲暮還甘顔氏貧 다툼의 요소 부와 귀는 손을 대기 곤란하니 / 富貴有爭難下手 막는 이 없는 자연 속에서 몸을 편히 해야 하리 / 林泉無禁可安身 낚시하고 나물 캐면 그런 대로 배 채우고 / 採山釣水堪充腹 바람과 달 시 읊으면 정신도 명랑해진다오 / 咏月吟風足暢神 의심없이 깨우쳐야 이것이 진정 쾌활한 것 / 學到不疑眞快活 일백 년 헛되이 살다 가는 사람은 되지 말아야지 / 免敎虛作百年人 이라 하였는데, 이를 통해 그의 뜻이 어디에 있었는지를 상상해 볼 수 있다.

English Translation

Sŏ Kyŏngdŏk was born with nearly supreme intelligence and had an especially profound understanding of Shao Yong’s 邵雍 (1011–1077) commentary on the Yijing (Book of Changes). The tactics he obtained from the Huangdi jingshi 皇極經世 (Book of Supreme World Ordering Principles) did not contain a single error. He wrote the following poem, 讀書當日志經綸歲暮還甘顏氏貧富貴有爭難下手林泉無禁可安身采山釣水堪充腹詠月吟風足暢神學到不疑真快活免教虛作百年人 Then I studied bookswith the intent on statecraft. Now in my waning years, I delight in the poverty of Yan Hui.Wealth and honor competeand are hard to get hold of. Forests and fountains do not discriminate, so there you can rest yourself.Picking firewood in the mountain and angling in the water, I can fill my belly.Singing the moon and chanting the wind, I satisfy my free spirit.Learning to the point of having no doubt, I am cheerful.I shall not let myself in vainbecome a hundred-year-old man.
