崔簡易岦。爲文力追古作者。餘事於詩。詩亦有奇健出人之句。余同赴京師。沿路唱酬甚多。嘗喜其詩句曰。劍能射斗誰看氣。衣未朝天已有香。曰鳥繞上林無樹着。鴈遵南浦故洲非。曰終南渭水如常見。武德開元得再攀。詞語精切矯健

Korean Translation

간이(簡易) 최립(崔岦)은 문장을 지음에 있어 고문(古文)을 추급(追及)하려 힘쓰고 시는 여사(餘事)로 여겼는데 그런 시 역시 남보다 뛰어나게 기건(奇健)한 구절들이 있었다. 내가 그와 함께 경사(京師)로 가는 동안 연로(沿路)에서 서로 주고받은 시들이 매우 많았는데 그 시구들을 한 때 좋아했었다. 가령, 두우(斗牛)를 쏘는 검기(劍氣) 그 누가 보았던가 / 劍能射斗誰看氣 황제도 보기 전에 벌써 옷에 향기 나네 / 衣未朝天已有香 이라고 한 것이나, 또 상림원(上林苑) 맴도는 갈가마귀 나무 앉을 자리 없고 / 烏繞上林無樹着 남포 좇는 저 기러기 옛 모래섬 아니구나 / 雁遵南浦故洲非 라고 한 것이나, 또 종남산과 위수 물 늘상 보듯 친숙한데 / 終南渭水如常見 무덕과 개원 시절 다시 볼 수 있을런가 / 武德開元得再攀 이라고 한 것들은 언어 표현이 정절(精切)하고 교건(矯健)하다 하겠다.

English Translation

As for prose, Ch’oe Rip (sobriquet Kŏni [Essence of Changes]) enthusiastically followed the ancients and did not pay much attention to poetry. But his poems also had particularly unique and robust (kigŏn) verses. When I accompanied him to Beijing on a diplomatic mission, we exchanged a lot of poems along the road. I liked certain verses in his poem such as, 劍能射斗誰看氣衣未朝天已有香 The sword that beams to the Big Dippers,who has seen its aura?The robe not yet seen the emperor already smells of his fragrance. 鳥繞上林無樹著雁遵南浦故洲非 The birds looped around the imperial garden but found no tree to perch on.The geese flew to the southern shores but the old islet was there no more. 終南渭水如常見武德開元得再攀 Mt. Zhongnan and the Wei’s waters remain as I have always seen.The glorious reigns of Wude and Kaiyuan I finally seek again. The expressions (saŏ) are accurate and pointed (chŏngjŏl), strong and vigorous (kyogŏn).
