Song Ikp’il 宋翼弼 (1534–1599; styled Unjang), despite being restrained by humble origin, had lofty natural endowments and his writings also were superior (ko). For example, a verse in his poem reads, The willow so dense, the mist is about to drip. The pond so calm, the egret forgets to fly away. He surpassed all men. The poem’s clear and ornate description (ch’ŏngp’a) is laudable, and its principle (ri) was also naturally attained (chado). |
